For the aveage Webmaster, Search Engine Optimization is something that only people with years of experience can master. As a Guaranteed Houston SEO, I believe part of this misunderstanding is because of all the misinformation written by self described SEO Guru’s. Some do this because they don’t have any idea what they’re talking about while some others do it to justify the ongoing fees they charge their Clients. Search Engine Optimization isn’t brain surgery people. It’s as simple as optimizing your website with a few keywords to tell the search engines what your Website is about. Make it easy for the search eninges to determine what your site is about and show them your site is relevant to the term being searched for and they will reward you with higher rankings.
To start with, one should make sure that the main keywords are part of the web address if you can arrange it. With everything being equal, a Website with your keywords in the address will outrank a website without the keywords included in the URL.
Now that you have that done, the keyword or keyword phrase should be included in the Name of your Website. By doing this, you’re helping search engines like Google,Yahoo and MSN figure out what the subject of your Website is.
Keywords should also be placed in the Title of each article on your Website, or at the very least, the Title of the page should contain your some keywords. This too helps the search engines figure out what the page is about, what words to rank it for and how relevant it is. As an added benefit, the website should be coded in such a manner as to include the Title of each page in a H1 tag. There should only be one H1 tag per page for the best results. Search engines give a great deal of value to the H1 tag and it’s important that your Page Title’s be inside H1 tags. If your web designer does not know how to do this, find one that does.
Now that you have your domain, Website Title (Name) and Page Titles optimized with your keywords, it is critical that the words you wish your website to rank higher for show up in the content of the page. You should use them at least once in the first paragraph and at least once in the last paragraph. A few more times between the first and last paragraph is also a good idea, whatever you do, make certain to use them at the first of the article and again at the end.
Lastly, probably the most important thing of SE Optimization actually takes place off site. In my opinion, the most important thing in getting higher ranks for a Website is backlinks going back to your page on your Website. And it’s not enough to just get backlinks, these backlinks need to have your keywords as the Anchor text of the backlinks.
How important are backlinks? Well, I can rank a website that doesn’t have the keywords in the domain, one that doesn’t have keywords in the Website Title, Page Title and in the Content (although it’s much, much harder to do), but without targeted backlinks pointing to the website, {it is almost impossible} to get ranked higher for any terms that are the least bit in high demand.
